Baber says LA7s about focus

February 22, 2020

Fiji Airways Coach Gareth Baber believes the Fiji 7s team should improve their level of competence in the anticipated Los Angeles 7s come Saturday 29th February.

Baber added their biggest challenge is to stay on top of their pool matches in LA.

“We won’t let anything distract us of what we are aiming for, it’s about being focused on the job at hand, getting those performances right and continuing to develop how we play ” Baber said in a Fiji Rugby Union statement.

“I’m quite pleased with the way that we’ve been training, and now, we’ve got a good opportunity going into LA against teams that have beaten us previously, to step up,”Baber said.

Meanwhile Police 7s player Suliano Volivolituevei will get to prove himself at the Los Angeles sevens when it kicks off at the Dignity Health Sports Park.

This was after Baber included him in the 14 member squad for the next two legs of the HSBC World Sevens Series.

Baber says Volivolituevei’s consistent work ethic and attitude to training is impressive.

“He’s got a maturity about his game, and he knows the game of sevens, he just loves to work, he’s got a great work ethic and that’s what we love about him,” Baber said.

Fiji is pooled with Argentina, France, and invitational team Korea.

The touring squad to the Los Angeles and Vancouver Sevens includes:

  • Sevuloni Mocenacagi
