The Australian Government has to date delivered over one million vaccines to Fiji following the handover of more than 100,000 doses in Suva today.
The provision of the 107,500 vaccines is part of a commitment Australian Government Minister Scott Morrison had made five months ago to provide Fiji with one million vaccines to help combat the coronavirus outbreak.
“I want to thank the Fijian Ministry of Health and Medical Services, and all the frontline workers for their tireless efforts to vaccinate Fijians, and commend all Fijians for stepping up to get vaccinated to protect their health and secure a brighter future for our region,” said Australian High Commissioner, John Feakes.
“Our bond as vuvale has only grown stronger throughout the pandemic, with five deployments of Australian medical assistance teams working hand in hand with Fijian counterparts to bolster the Fijian medical system and combat the COVID-19 outbreak. We have also supported the Fijian Government’s response to COVID-19 by providing over FJD152.5 million in direct budget support, COVID-19 testing equipment, consumables and qualified lab technicians, over 1.3 tonnes of Personal Protective Equipment and medical supplies, and much more.”
The Australian Government said it will continue to work alongside Fiji as it prepares to welcome back tourists and in overall efforts to ensure a quick economic recovery to get Fijians back to work so they can support their families and communities.
