Much needed housing continues to be something that the Coalition government will look into to help those living in informal settlements falling in the bracket of low income earners around the country.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony of offer letters to 36 families at the Lagilagi Housing Project in Suva yesterday, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said this was a priority for the administration.
“Rising material costs, labour shortages and effects of climate change have added strains to the housing sector, making it more difficult for families to secure affordable housing.”
“The Coalition government remains steadfast in providing affordable housing for low income families.”
“In addition, the Coaltion government has allocated a further $2 million dollars in this financial year for the preliminary works and the commencement of the next phase.”
In January 2024, Government took over the administration and building of the Lagilagi Housing project from the Peoples Community Network.
The project has cost Government $2.2 million dollars.
