Fiji’s Secondary School Athletics Association is hoping to meet with the Education Ministry to iron out its commitments for the next schooling calendar year including the Coca Cola Games.
FSSAA general secretary Vuli Waqa said they had sent emails to the ministry, requesting for a meeting, and “are waiting to hear back from them”.
Amongst other things, the association seeks confirmation from the ministry on the school term calendar, adding that information that they have gathered so far has been from secondary sources including the media.
“We have got our plans, but we cannot say or confirm anything until we have sat down with the ministry,” Waqa said.
In an press conference early this month, Minister for Education Premila Kumar had said that based on the year 12 and 13 school term calendar which runs from November 1 to March when external exam results are expected to be released, “until April there is no room for sports. Anything after April we can consider and this discussion we must have with the sports bodies.”
The Coca Cola games meet, one of the big events on the annual secondary school calendar, is usually held in the final week of the first term of school.
