Vaccination drive planned for children in Fiji will start with those in the year 12 and year 13 school streams to allow them to sit their external exams.
Fiji’s General Manager COVID Response Unit Dr Ana Maisema shared the news with national sporting federations during discussions today on the newly launched framework that will guide the resumption of all sporting and recreational activities including contact sports.
Dr Maisema said the rollout will commence once registration of students in the age group is done which is being done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The challenge however is in the provision of IDs for these students. One of the documentation required for vaccine registration is a photo ID, which schools do not have of students. The standard IDs only show the children’s details but not their photos.
Vaccination will then be rolled out to those in the younger age group which Dr Maisema said will take place progressively and intentions are that eligible students will be vaccinated by early next year.
