Fiji’s confirmed active coronavirus cases, as of 8 am Wednesday 21 July, stands at around 16,000 of which around 8% are cared for in designated isolation facilities.
Of the country’s active cases to date, 1,312 are housed in 30 of these isolation facilities around the country – 279 in six hospital facilities and 1,033 in 24 community-based facilities.
Twenty-two per cent (22%) of the 279 individuals in hospital facilities are either in severe or critical condition, 66 require oxygen, and two are on ventilators.
Of the 1,033 in community-based facilities, 446 are based in 14 facilities in the Central Division, 583 in nine West-based facilities and four at the Malau facility in the North.
Meanwhile works to convert the FEMAT field hospital to a full COVID-care facility is almost complete. The FEMAT field hospital currently has 49 admission beds and has catered for 175 admissions since May this year.
The ministry is also setting up additional community facilities for spillover of admission cases. A home-care support system has also been set up to follow-up on home-based positive individuals. As of yesterday, 402 calls have been received via the forum and 1057 individuals attended. The ministry has also set up in the Central Division a centralised ambulance service based out of the ANZ Stadium in Laucala. They assist in the retrieval of patients and are accessible via toll-free number 165.
