Vanua Levu quarantine facilities activated for returnees

June 23, 2021

Eight facilities across Bua, Macuata and Cakaudrove have been earmarked as quarantine facilities for locals cleared to travel to Vanua Levu.

The quarantine facilities for Macuata are the Fiji Forest Industries (FFI) quarters at Malau and Labasa College that is earmarked as a COVID-19 isolation Centre. In Bua, the quarantine facilities are Immaculate Conception Solevu Primary School, Seatura House in Nabouwalu and Waibunabuna Primary School in Lekutu. In Cakaudrove, the quarantine facilities are Savusavu Secondary School, Monfort Technical Institute and Naqere Youth Centre.

Before they can be allowed to leave Viti Levu, the returnees will need to return a negative test result, Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima said.

“This will be a trial phase where we will put them in their own bubble. If everything goes according to plan after their 14 days quarantine, then we will increase the number of the next repatriation passengers. All repatriation passengers will be swabbed and wait for their test results before they are allowed to travel. When they reach Vanua Levu, they will be put for 14 days quarantine in these facilities and will be released once cleared.”

Rainima recently toured the facilities in Macuata and Bua to ensure everything is prepared before the repatriation. He was accompanied by Labasa Medical Superintendent Dr Jaoji Vulibeci, Divisional Health Inspector Northern Vakaruru Cavulati and the Northern Division COVID-19 task force team.
