Fijian authorities carried out more than 300 tests in three days, all of which came out negative, maintaining Fiji’s COVID-19 status for the 26th consecutive day.
In an update today, the country’s Ministry of Health reaffirmed the country’s coronavirus-clear status.
However, this may change with a number of repatriation flights scheduled for the month through March, starting tomorrow.
According to Fiji Airways’ website, flights are scheduled through the end of March, to Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland and a lone flight to Singapore.
As of 29 January, the Ministry of Health had carried out 25,815 tests and as of this morning, 2 February 2021, numbers had increased to 26,118.
Fiji last recorded a COVID-19 case, on 6-7 January 2021 involving two women aged 49 and 58 years. They had arrived on flight NZ952 from New Zealand late December. The two as with Fiji’s earlier 32 cases are deemed border quarantine cases unlike Fiji’s first 18 cases, which happened at community level and deemed so.
Fiji has had 55 cases in total since its first case on 19 March 2020.
