Temperatures soar ‘above maximum’ in Fiji

Fiji’s air temperature exceeded normal maximum in recent days and is expected to persist until later today, the country’s weather office says, before spells of heavy rain are expected to affect the whole group into the weekend.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Office, in the past few days, air temperatures have soared up to 34.5 in some places.

Normally, at this time of the year, the maximum air temperatures range from 30 to 32.

Conditions are expected to continue until midnight tomorrow with showers expected over the northeastern parts and interior of the larger islands, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

A trough of low pressure is expected to approach the group on Thursday, bringing with it cloud and showers which is anticipated to affect the group until next week.
