Children will be arrested if they fail to comply: Police

Fiji’s Police say they will not hesitate to arrest children who do not comply with COVID19 orders after 24 juveniles were among 57 apprehended overnight.

Of the 24 children arrested, 22 were playing touch rugby at the Nukuwatu foreshore in Lami, the youngest aged 14 years. Two others were arrested in the southern division for breach of curfew.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said: “The time for warnings is over, and we will not hesitate to arrest anyone found breaching COVID-19 restrictions as we cannot afford to be complacent.”

Also arrested were seventeen (17) adults, the eldest being 48 years old.

Out of the 57 taken in, 40 arrests were sports-related.
