Woman, among 7 marijuana arrests

A woman in her 50s was among seven people Fiji’s police apprehended today over alleged possession and cultivation of marijuana.

The woman, aged 52 years, residing at Velau Drive in Kinoya was allegedly found with more than 50 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. She was one of three people arrested in Kinoya, two others from Kaloa Place who were found with 300 bullets or wrappings of marijuana.

Three men, aged 22, 30 and 39 years were arrested in separate farm raids in Yalobi, Waya in Yasawa and Solovorovoroa settlement in Tavuki, Kadavu. Police made their seventh arrest at Sakoca Settlement, where they apprehended a 28-year-old man who was found with plastics containing crystal confirmed to be methamphetamine.

 Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said: “Drug operations continue to step up momentum with the deployment of specialized capabilities such as the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and the K9 team.”
