Mourners screened as Vanuabalavu prepares for Qarase funeral

Government authorities on Vanuabalavu Island took care today to check all the mourners who have arrived on the Lomaiviti Princess 9.

More than 400 passengers arrived ahead of tomorrow’s funeral for former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase. Police officers and medical personnel conducted fever screening for all passengers who disembarked at 2 pm.

The MV Lomaiviti Princess carrying mourners from all over Viti Levu is the first vessel to be allowed back on the island following COVID19 containment measures.

The funeral cottage along with the body of PM Qarase will depart Suva early tomorrow morning on a chartered FijiLink flight paid for by the government. A second vessel, the MV Veivueti carrying members of the late Prime Ministers family was also chartered by the Government.
