Fiji One Point Away from Sealing Group B Top Spot

July 9, 2025

Fiji’s women’s football team sit firmly atop Group B at the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2025, following a 3-0 win over Tonga in Suva — and now need only a point in their final group match against Vanuatu to cement their place as group winners.

The Kulas, who now have six points from two matches, continued their perfect start to the campaign in front of a home crowd at HFC Bank Stadium.

Despite Tonga offering early resistance, Fiji’s attacking pressure ultimately overwhelmed the visitors, with goals in each half securing the result.

Cema Nasau opened the scoring in the 30th minute before second-half finishes from Sereana Naweni (80′) and Elesi Tabunase (90+7′) sealed the win.

The victory keeps Fiji unbeaten in the group, with two wins from two and a +5 goal difference. Tonga, on the other hand, remain winless.

Fiji head coach Angeline Chua was pleased with the performance and signalled her intent to continue rotating players to prepare for the knockout stages.

“Two wins from two, and one step closer to the semi-finals! We set out to get the three points, and then move on,” Chua said after the match.
“We have a strong group of players and everyone comes on with different qualities. The aim is to give group stage experience to the players and when we hit the semifinals we are ready for it.”

The Kulas opened their campaign with a 3-2 win over the Solomon Islands and will now look to maintain momentum heading into their final Group B match against Vanuatu. A draw would guarantee the top spot in the group.

In Group A, Papua New Guinea currently leads with four points from a win and a draw, positioning themselves well for a semi-final place of their own.

Fiji’s final group-stage fixture against Vanuatu is scheduled for 7pm this Friday, July 11.
