Give me the report so I can challenge says Malimali; Law Society also wants full report

June 18, 2025

Sacked FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali has called for the official release of the COI report on her appointment so she can challenge its legality and findings.

The Fiji Law Society has also called for the official release of the entire COI report.

A number of those implicated say they cannot comment on the leaked sections being circulated.

“Until the entirety of the COI is officially released, I am stuck and unable to comment on it,” one of those mentioned in the COI told Mai TV.

In a social media post today Malimali said she was ready to fight to clear her name.

“Natural justice and fair play require that anyone adversely affected by any such Inquiry should be given a copy – so they can challenge it, especially if there are errors or signs of procedural impropriety,” Malimali said.

“The advice apparently given by whomever was to act on the recommendations first, then deal with the consequences later or give the report later – that is not how things work in a functioning democracy.”

“That is not how the rule of law works.”Malimali’s appointment as FICAC Commissioner was revoked by the President last month – a recommendation of the COI.

The leaked COI document describes Malimali’s appointment as “legally invalid,” “ethically reprehensible,” and “procedurally corrupted.”

“I am afraid for where our country is heading, I am truly afraid that we “convict” people based on hearsay on hearsay,” Malimali said.

“You can embarrass me and shame me publicly but make sure you come at me with clean hands. I will fight to clear my name.”

“Perverting the course of justice and abuse of office can go the other way too!”
