Player movement and injuries contribute to non-availability of players for Flying Fijians

June 13, 2025

Several players have not been able to join the Flying Fijians outfit for the Australia and Scotland tests due to movements to new clubs.

And Fiji Water Flying Fijians Head Coach Mick Byrne says the players are still part of the squad despite not being named in the final 32 member squad.

“Some of the players like Semi Radradra are moving from France to Japan, so he’s sorting that out. I spoke to him again last night and he’s also planning to make a trip to Fiji so it will be good to catch up then.”

Byrne added that some of the senior players were still in rehab and will be assessed as and when their recuperation time ends.

The head coach added that those who didn’t make the final squad will continue their training and preparation.

“I just want reassure the players that didn’t get picked that training is to continue because once the squad returns, team training continues with everyone.

“Both Australia and Scotland are established Tier One sides, and we know the level we need to rise to. We’ve focused on combinations that give us both tactical adaptability and the trademark Fijian spirit.

“We want to win but more importantly, we want to win playing our brand of rugby. This squad reflects the depth, strength, and we will give a performance that will make all Fijians proud.”

Fiji will face the Wallabies at the McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on July 6 and return home to face Scotland the following week on July 12th at the HFC Bank National Stadium in Suva.
