May 15, 2025

Preparations continue for the clash between the Fiji U18 rugby league side and their counterparts from Tonga in Lautoka next weekend.

Coach Wise Kativerata said the team was learning to work together and includes what he describes are dynamic and powerful players.

“These kids are stars in their own right, with the right guidance and coaching they will definitely go places in their rugby league career.”

Kativerata said the side knows that the Tongans will be coming with firepower to try and dominate.

“We are working on our combinations, and the boys know what is at stake here. We are not going to underestimate the Tongans because we know that just like us, they are also wanting to progress their young national side.”

The team has been in camp at the FNRL HQ and will travel to Lautoka early next week to prepare for the match which will also act as the curtain raiser for the Kaiviti Silktails and West Tigers in the Jersey Flegg Cup competition.

The Jersey Flegg Cup consists of 14 NSWRL clubs: 11 existing NSW-based sides, as well as the Melbourne Storm, New Zealand Warriors and Fiji Silktails.
