Pacific Nations Cup, Wallabies and Scotland to provide road map for Rugby World Cup 2027

May 14, 2025

The Fiji Water Flying Fijians’ preparations for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia will be further strengthened by their upcoming matches against the Australian Wallabies, Scotland, and the Pacific Nations Cup series.

And Flying Fijians Head Coach Mick Byrne says they will go into each of the matches aiming to make a mark and learn how to work together building towards RWC 2027.

“These are all huge matches for Fiji, each and every game will help us work out our strengths and identify areas we will need to work on also. This is important in us working out a team to take us to the World Cup because we now have a wide expanse of players.”

Byrne said they will still need to wait upon the availability and release of players currently playing in the Northern Hemisphere to make the squad for the upcoming matches.

“It’s always tricky trying to get the Northern Hemisphere players at this time of the year because they are still in their respective competitions over on that side.”

“Although we have the Fijian Drua players available we will still wait for the outcome of the results from the Europe based players.”

Byrne also applauded the signing of Temo Mayanavanua with the Fijian Drua.

“He’s a world class player, and he will definitely add alot of experience and expertise into the side in the new season.”

Fiji plays Australia at the Mcdonalds Jones Stadium in Newcastle on July 6th, then play Scotland at home in Suva on July 12th.

The Pacific Nations Cup kicks off on 22 August and will run through till 20 September and Fiji’s first game will be against Tonga here at the HFC Bank Stadium on August 30.
