The USS Blue Ridge, flagship of the U.S. 7th Fleet, is in the country, having arrived in Suva yesterday for its first port visit in over 25 years.
The visit underscores a shared commitment to maritime security and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.
U.S. 7th Fleet Commander Vice Adm. Fred Kacher said the port call “underscores our longstanding friendship with the people of Fiji that is rooted in our shared values and commitment to regional stability in the Pacific.”
During the stopover, Blue Ridge leadership will meet with senior officials from the Republic of Fiji Navy and government officials. Crew members will also take part in community outreach, including school visits, clean-up efforts, sports events, and public concerts.
Events include a free U.S. Navy band concert at Ratu Sukuna Park at 6pm today and a basketball match with the Fiji Navy and RFMF on Wednesday at USP Gym.
Captain Nicholas C. DeLeo, commanding officer of ‘Blue Ridge’, said the visit is an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and experience Fijian culture.
The Blue Ridge and embarked U.S. 7th Fleet staff conduct regular Indo-Pacific patrols to deter aggression, strengthen alliances and partnerships, and advance future warfighting capabilities.
