US Team to Offer Free Life-Saving Heart Surgeries in Fiji

Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital will offer free heart surgeries for children with congenital heart disease for one week, beginning Thursday, April 24.

Led by Dr. Shaun Setty from Stanford University, a 17-member international team will perform the surgeries, coinciding with the hospital’s third anniversary.

Dr. Setty, the hospital’s first operating surgeon since its opening in April 2022, returns annually for this mission. The team includes specialists from the US, UAE, Australia, and New Zealand, and works alongside Fiji’s Ministry of Health.

“We are profoundly grateful for Dr. Setty and his team’s unwavering commitment to providing these life-saving surgeries to children in Fiji and the Pacific,” said Dr.  Krupali Tappoo, Director of Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital. “Their dedication brings hope and healing to families across Fiji and the Pacific. They also assist in building  local capacity, which we are very grateful for.” 

“This round of surgeries will benefit children from Fiji, the Solomon Islands, and Kiribati.” 

To date, Sanjeevani has performed 363 free heart surgeries and over 30,000 echocardiograms.

. The hospital’s founder, Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, will also attend the anniversary celebrations.

Director Dr. Krupali Tappoo underscored the importance of early detection and ongoing commitment to providing free cardiac care across the Pacific.
