Fiji Opposition Leader Calls for Unity and Compassion in Easter Message

April 18, 2025

Fiji’s Leader of the Opposition Inia Seruiratu has called on Fijians to embrace unity, compassion and tolerance in his Easter message.

Describing Easter as a time of hope and renewal, Seruiratu urged the nation to reflect on the message of love and sacrifice embodied in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He said the Christian teaching to “love your neighbour as yourself” was especially relevant in a diverse society like Fiji.

“This principle is not only a moral guide but the foundation on which we must build our shared future,” he said.

The Opposition Leader also acknowledged the recent observance of Eid al-Fitr and Ram Navami by Fiji’s Muslim and Hindu communities. He praised the spirit of devotion and tolerance shown during these celebrations, describing them as reminders of the shared values that unite the country.

“There is so much we can learn from each other when we approach our differences with respect and an open heart,” he said.

Reflecting on the life and teachings of Jesus, Seruiratu said the Easter story was a powerful call to live with kindness, forgiveness and acceptance.

“As we mark this sacred weekend, let us take the time to reflect and rejuvenate. May the message of love inspire us to strengthen the bonds that unite us as Fijians,” he said.
