Nadi International Airport has become the first in the Blue Pacific to achieve Level 4 “Transformation” status under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), a global initiative by Airports Council International that recognises efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
ACI is the global trade body for airports, representing over 2,000 airports in 185 countries that sets international standards and best practices to improve airport operations, safety, sustainability, and efficiency.
Having previously attained Level 3 “Optimisation” in 2020, Nadi now joins major international airports including Narita (Japan), Dubai, King Khalid (Saudi Arabia), and Taoyuan (Taiwan) at Level 4.
Fiji Airports CEO Mesake Nawari said the recognition reflects the collective commitment of the board, management, staff, and stakeholders to sustainability, noting the airport’s vulnerability to climate change. The achievement, he said, highlights the airport’s alignment with global climate goals and its partnerships aimed at reducing emissions.
This included the procurement of 14 solar-powered electric vehicles, solar-powered streetlights and signage at Nadi Airport, full solar installations at domestic airports in Savusavu, Matei, Rotuma, and Labasa and solar power at the CEO’s residence and across all Fiji Airports compound streetlights.
