January 13, 2025

In what is to be a first, the Fijian Drua will take on the Rugby Football Club Los Angeles in a match to get underway at 3pm on Friday 24th January, at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

A statement from the Fijian Drua says the match will help the Super Rugby side get the much needed exposure at high level rugby before the start of the 2025 season.

“This landmark clash is the first time for a U.S.-based team for the MLR to compete against a team from one of world’s most elite rugby competitions – Super Rugby Pacific – underscoring the growing global stature of both leagues.”

Fijian Drua General Manager Rugby Baden Stephenson said they were anticipating a hard game from the visitors.

“The Fijian Drua are very excited to host Rugby FCLA in Fiji and be the first Super Rugby Pacific Club to engage with the MLR.” Said Fijian Drua General Manager Rugby Baden Stephenson said.

Notable signings for RFCLA include former Fiji 7s player Semi Kunatani and Samoan international Christian Leali’ifano and have the services of former Super Rugby and Waratahs coaching staff Stephen Hoiles and David Dennis.

Major League Rugby is a professional sports league representing the highest rugby competition in North America. The League has evolved from seven teams in 2018 to 12 teams in the 2024 season.
