“In an era of social media hashtags 280-character tweets, this is a space where stories can be told – fully and completely.”
These were the words of the Editor of the Fiji Nikua magazine Stanley Simpson, at its launch in Suva by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka today.
Simpson said the magazine was a way of bringing back indepth story telling something that has been impacted and changed by the rise and prominence of social media.
“It is not just a magazine, it’s a return to meaningful and indepth story telling. It’s a place where stories of quiet triumphs and bold dreams will remind us of who we are and who we can be.”
“For 16 years, our media landscape was constrained. I want to thank the Prime Minister and the Coalition government for their leadership in repealing the MIDA Act and providing the conditions for a free media landscape that will enrich and reignite our democracy and democratic discourse.”
Fiji Nikua is a magazine published by Max Marketing and contains insightful contributions from media guru Matt Wilson, former civil servant Joji Kotobalavu, a health and fitness column by Rowena Taito, a look at Fiji’s meth problems amongst other interesting topics.
The magazine will be sold at various outlets throughout Fiji at the retail price of $3.95.
