The United States of America has vowed to help the Fiji military via upskilling in military resources and training.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J.Austin III in answering media questions at the press conference on Denarau Island this morning reiterated the US’s commitment to Fiji.
“The State of Forces Agreement (SOFA) will help us deploy and redeploy forces in support of Fiji and help with training on routine rotation basis.”
Secretary Austin also said that there are no plans as yet of establishing a military base in Fiji.
“There was no discussion on that on this meeting but we are looking forward to working with Fiji and strengthen the Indo Pacific relations.”
Secretary Austin was accorded a traditional ceremony of welcome at the Black Rock military camp in Nadi and will conclude his visit to Fiji later today.
