Weightlifting duo look to Commonwealth Games

September 2, 2024

For Taniela Rainibogi and Miriama Taletawa weightlifting is more than just a sport.

It is a means of keeping fit so they can be the best versions of themselves in all areas of their lives.

Rainibogi and Taletawa won the Fiji Sports Council Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards on the weekend.

Rainibogi said he was not expecting to be chosen.

“I never expected this because I know there were other capable nominees.”

“This award means so much to me. To be recognised, to be acknowledged tells me that what I am doing and have achieved is all worth it.”

Taletawa said she was shocked when she heard her name.

“I just sat there and stared at those on the same table. When everyone started cheering, then it dawned on me that I had won. I am so grateful to God for this, and I dedicate it to everyone that has supported me over the years, in my career till now. This is for them.”

The duo said work continues and they aim to represent Fiji at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
