Namosi Province Forms Think Tank to Lead Economic Revival and Sustainable Development

August 30, 2024

Namosi Province has formed a think tank of local leaders and experts to guide economic growth and sustainable development.

This initiative, led by the Turaga Na Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, aims to transform Namosi into a centre for eco-tourism, renewable energy, and other sustainable industries, a statement by the Think Tank said.

The Namosi Think Tank includes Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa, Kali Vunidilo (as Chairman of TT) Dr Joeli Varo (Deputy Chairman TT), Ratu Iowane Matanitobua (Chairman Namosi Provincial Council), Vitale Varo ( Commissioner Eastern), Ita Sauduadua (Lawyer), Dr Laila Sauduadua (Medical Doctor), Lasaro Vota (Fijian Affairs), Makario Tabuakuru (Roko), Seresio Sauduadua (Roko Tui) and Mikaela Belena (Director Energy).

The think tank is planning several important projects, such as creating an agro-industrial business hub in the highlands, building an eco-resort and cultural centre, and setting up facilities for processing agricultural products. These initiatives are expected to generate FJD 750 million in new economic activity.

To ensure the success of these plans, the think tank will involve the community in the decision-making process. After a soft launch ceremony led by the Turaga Na Tui Namosi, the think tank will visit villages and use online platforms to gather feedback from over 7,000 Namosi residents.

This feedback will help shape a five-year strategic development plan and a master plan that aims to protect 90% of Namosi’s natural environment, using the other 10% for sustainable economic activities.
