Fiji Faces Dry Spell: Public Urged to Conserve Water as Reservoir Levels Drop

WAF water cut

The Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport has warned the public to conserve water as Fiji faces a dry spell expected to last at least two more months.

Fiji is currently in its Dry Season (May to October), with rainfall significantly below average. As a result, several water reservoirs are critically low.

Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau says the ministry is working with the Tourism, Health, and Education sectors to manage the situation and inform the public. Residents are advised to use water sparingly, fix leaks, and reuse water where possible.

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. The ministry is also working with the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development to supply water to affected areas, including maritime communities
