University Holds First-Ever ‘Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea’ for Cancer Support

June 22, 2023

The University of Fiji recently organised its first “Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea” event in support of the Fiji Cancer Society.

Held yesterday, the event aimed to raise awareness, collect funds, and provide care for cancer patients.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaista Shameem underlined the importance of health and well-being in preventing diseases like cancer. She also highlighted the university’s focus on holistic well-being and plans for sports opportunities.

“De-stressing is very important as a health issue and the university has plans in place for sporting opportunities at the University, for both men and women, to assist with wellness” she added.

Professor Shameem further stated that the university was acutely aware of the devastating impact of cancer as it had lost a number of colleagues to cancer.

Acting Coordinator of the Nursing Department, Dr Akisi Ravono, paid tribute to medical professionals for their efforts in caring for cancer patients and their families.

Cash donations will be accepted until July 12, and the funds will be handed over to the Fiji Cancer Society. The event was sponsored by Punjas.
