Drua and Hurricanes set for epic clash in Suva

May 3, 2023

In an eagerly anticipated Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific clash, Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will face off against Hurricanes at the HFC Stadium in Suva on Saturday.

Both sides will be looking to secure a victory, with the Drua hoping to turn around their recent form and the Hurricanes looking to continue their impressive run.

Speaking ahead of the match, Fijian Drua coach Mick Byrne acknowledged the talent within the Hurricanes squad, stating, “There’s All Blacks in the front row, midfield, and backs. There is potential for future All Blacks on the wings.”

However, Byrne was confident in his team’s ability to match their opponents, adding, “We’ve got a lot of confidence in our ability to play a physical game. We’ll be focusing very much on starting and making sure that we’re playing our game the way we want to play.”

The Hurricanes come into the match on the back of a hard-fought 32-27 victory over the Brumbies. The Drua, meanwhile, suffered a 14-30 loss to the Blues in their last outing, their first loss at home in the current Super Rugby season, and will be looking to bounce back with a strong performance in front of their home fans.

As the Hurricanes aim to retain their spot in the top three of the standings, the Drua are determined to improve their current 11th-place position in the upcoming match.

In their last meeting, around the same time last year in Wellington, the Hurricanes thrashed the Fijian Drua 67-5.

The match kicks off at 2.05pm Fiji time.
