Fiji Elections 2022: Koroisavou taken in: ComPol

December 20, 2022

Fiji’s Police chief Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho has confirmed taking in SODELPA candidate Jope Koroisavou, out of concern, because of a petition as the party board management works to decide on a coalition.

Koroisavou who was organising a petition in support of a coalition with the People’s Alliance and National Federation Party was taken in for questioning, shortly after a call-out rallying support on social media.

“Yes, we have brought him in for questioning in regards to his call for people to meet him and sign a petition. We are concerned with gatherings close to this afternoon’s SODELPA meeting in a nearby facility.”

Koroisavou is believed to have been prompted to make the call-out because of divisions within the party over their selection of a coalition partner after the country’s 2022 General Election results – FijiFirst’s 26 to PA/NFP’s 26 – meant SODELPA decides Fiji’s next government.

SODELPA’s management board is meeting in Suva today to decide on offers from both the FijiFirst and PA. The meeting that is being held behind closed doors coincides with the induction of Fiji’s 55 MPs, happening at the Grand Pacific Hotel. As it stands, there is still no proclamation/summoning from the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, for the Fijian Parliament to sit which should take place within 14 days of the release of the final results.
