70K Short for World Cup

With only four days to go before they depart Fiji for the Hockey World Cup, the national men and women’s hockey sides still needs $70,000.

This is mainly for accommodation and team administration and logistics while they are in Muscat, Oman.

At a cheque presentation today of $20,000 by Asco Motors, national men’s coach Shaun Corrie said they were hoping for a breakthrough in sponsorship and finding it in the next few days.

“It looks impossible but we are confident Fiji will help our two national sides make it to Oman for their first ever World Cup,” Corrie said.

Men’s player Aidan Smith says the sides are confident of making it to Oman and having a good outing.

“We are so grateful to everyone that has contributed so far. We will not let you down. We know what it means to give money to support us at a time like this. Money is hard to come by, so when people and businesses give us support like this it means alot.”

The Oman Hockey World Cup starts January 24 with the women opening Fiji’s campaign against the Netherlands.
