Fiji Rugby’s High Performance Unit has selected 70 players in the 2022 Fiji School Boys Selection wider training squad.
Elite player pathway manager Bill Gadolo said players were picked based on their form during the holiday skills camp and the national age grade camp over the past two years.
“We made our selection accordingly from closely monitoring our age grade rugby camps, and picking out players according to each players data that we noted down,” said Gadolo
“We also considered recommendations that we received from top Fiji School rugby coaches regarding their top picks to be included into the squad.”
Organised by the FRU High Performance Academy, the age grade rugby camps were aimed to engage players from the eastern- central division to keep them involved with all fundamentals of rugby, and keeping them active on the field, particularly having gone two years without any schools rugby competition.
The selection process into the Fiji School Boys squad, he adds, will be ongoing. More players will be selected from an internal Fiji Warriors tournament scheduled for next month. The HPU hopes to attract the top school boy players from around the country to participate, at the completion of which, the Fiji Under-20 squad will be picked and 30 others invited to join the academy.
