Fifty families from Tunalia and Marasa in Nadi whose livelihoods have been affected by the pandemic received food rations assistance this week as part of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Fiji‘s COVID-19 Response.
The assistance, delivered yesterday, was made possible through funding support via the New Zealand Aid Programme.
Satendra Kumar whose family was among those who received the assistance expressed his gratitude. He said finding food for the family has become a daily struggle.
The distribution is part of the Strengthening Early Recovery for Food Security and Livelihood (SERFSAL) project funded by New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The project is for TC Yasa Response but has redirected emergency funding to meet the immediate needs of the COVID-19 affected communities. The project is also supported by World Vision New Zealand.
ADRA Fiji will continue with the distributions today whereby 50 affected families from Vio Island in Lautoka will be assisted as part of the project.
ADRA Fiji Country Director Iliapi Tuwai revealed that since the second outbreak on 17 April, they have been inundated with requests for food rations and other immediate needs.
He said the need for food is a priority and ADRA Fiji is exploring all avenues to get the much-needed funding to support the helpless and the vulnerable people out there.
