Defendants apply to strike out Nawaikula’s Land Act amendment case

Counsel for the Attorney General's Chambers today applied to strike out a lawsuit by Niko Nawaikula who is challenging the legality of the iTaukei Land Trust (Budget Amendment) Act 2021, among other matters, that was passed late July in the Fijian Parliament during his absence. Nazia Ali who appeared for the first and second defendants in the Fijian Government and the Attorney General's Office filed the application on the grounds that there was no reasonable course of action, further submitting that concerned parties provide written submissions on the strike-out application. Fiji Pol: The People’s Alliance names party founding members

The People's Alliance Party leader and former Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka today unveiled the party's founding members, among them UN security expert Ro Naulu Mataitini , Tui Nawaka Ratu Asaeli Driu Naevo, media personality Ajay Amrit and businessmen Pavan Haer Singh, Keith Watkins as well as former Flying Fijian fly-half Dan Lobendahn Snr. Tu Naulu is also party Vice President, joining the executive arm of the newest party in Fiji's political arena comprising Tui Nadi Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci as Party President, Sakiasi Ditoka as General Secretary, and Treasurer Joseva Leano. Counsel of ex-CEO to review victim impact statement

Focus on ourselves first: Baber on Fiji Test against Spain

Vodafone Flying Fijians November Tour coach Gareth Baber says the focus against Spain on Sunday is to get the players to perform to their best of their abilities and getting things right, particularly with the match serving as the players first hit out together against a side that has had a chance to play in a competitive setting, the most recent against Italy A over the weekend. Spain lost to the Italian side by two points, the final score being 11-13, but Baber is not dwelling too much on that, insisting the side focuses on what they can do with what they have against the Spaniards and what they know of them, and progressively improve for the other two matches against Wales and Georgia.
