100 Parents Face Delays in Back-to-School Support Payments

January 28, 2025

As the new school term begins, about 100 parents in Fiji face delays in receiving Back-to-School Support payments due to application issues, according to the Ministry of Finance.

The delays have been attributed to incorrect or incomplete information submitted in applications, including unregistered mobile numbers, incorrect birth registration numbers, and other errors.

In a statement, officials have assured parents that they are working closely with the Ministry of Education to resolve these issues and ensure eligible families receive the assistance they need.

“We are working tirelessly with the Ministry of Education to assist affected parents. Your patience is appreciated as we address these challenges.”

To date, the Ministry of Finance has paid out approximately $42 million to assist 209,696 students. Just today, $1.2 million was disbursed to 6,204 students, with the majority being Year 13 enrollees.

For those who have yet to enrol their children in Year 13, payments will be facilitated once enrolment is complete. The ministry urges families to ensure that their details are accurate when applying for assistance.
